Easy Fit Gang
Easy Fit Gang is a youth-led initiative in Kakuma Refugee Camp focused on physical fitness and mental wellbeing. Co-founded by Rita, a yoga instructor and social worker, the programme was created to support young people facing mental health challenges by offering structured physical activity alongside community support.
“We use dance, yoga, cardio, and weightlifting to help young people freshen up their minds, It helps them move out of difficulties around mental stability and gives them something positive to focus on.”
Working with youth from both the camp and Kakuma town, Easy Fit Gang has grown into what Rita describes as a large, supportive community with a visible impact on participants’ wellbeing.
“It’s really helping the youth, not just physically, but mentally too.”
After a donor visited and witnessed the work being carried out, support was offered to help the initiative expand. Plans are now underway to develop a dedicated healing and community centre, including a yoga and aerobics studio, weight-training facilities, and an outdoor running track.
“It’s going to be a centre where, when there is any gathering in the camp or the host community, people will find themselves here,” Rita says. “A social place for healing, a social place for interaction. This is why Easy Fit Gang was started, and this is where it is going.”
