La Fête des Gitans
Every year, members of Romani communities from across Europe gather in the Camargue town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in the south of France for the annual pilgrimage honouring Sainte Sara la Noire.
The coastal town comes alive with rhythm and devotion as this deeply rooted pilgrimage—steeped in history and passed down through generations—unfolds across its streets and shoreline. Statues of the saints are carried into the sea in a powerful procession led by the iconic white Camargue horses, followed by hundreds of worshippers.
